Lovell Land newspaper
| May 11, 2012 | Posted by cummings.ae under Uncategorized |
Lovell Land has officially opened! There are lots of things to do in Lovell Land. There are six different places. We have the newspaper, the cafe, the garden centre, the post office, the libary and the garage.
In the newspaper group we report about what is happening in Lovell Land. The cafe is next door to the newspaper where they are enjoying their food and drink.
Ptolemy found out in the libary, boys are making a giant Lola from the Charlie and Lola stories. In the garage, boys are cleaning bikes by using soapy water and in the garden centre, potatoes are being planted.
Andrew and Jacob reported that the boys think Lovell Land is fantastic!
Vijay and Jack discovered that in the cafe they are using chopstikcs to try and pick up raisens and eat them! It looked really tricky!
Joshua found out that in the garden centre, onions are being grown! Also, bikes are being cleaned in the garage.
Finn, Tom, Rui and Luca interviewed some boys. Here is one of those interview from the cafe.
Off to London!

This term the boys at Lovell House will be learning about London, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.
At playtime they travelled on their new London bus which took them to have tea with the Queen. They pretended to visit the Tower of London, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament on the new scooters, space hoppers and tricycles.
Thank you so much to Tregi for making the fabulous bus for the boys, and to the Friends of Lovell House for buying the scooters and tricycles.
Spring chicks

In the last twenty four hours the chicks have been hatching at school. So far we have 12 chicks. After hatching they stay in the incubator to dry out and then we put them in the ‘pod’ to keep them warm and give them food and drink. Tomorrow they will be strong enough to go into the run. Welcome little chicks.

The Sheriff of Nottingham visits our school
| March 14, 2012 | Posted by cummings.ae under Uncategorized |
Today we had the pleasure of meeting the Sheriff of Nottingham at school. The boys in the Reception class have been learning about Robin Hood and have already visited Nottingham Castle, learnt how to shoot an arrow from a bow and met Robin Hood himself. The Sheriff’s visit allowed them to learn more about the role of the Sheriff, ask him questions and realise he is the ‘good Sheriff’
We appreciate him finding time in his busy schedule to visit us and it was an honour to have him in our school.
Thank you from all the boys and staff at Lovell House.
Supporting NOTDEC UK charity
| February 12, 2012 | Posted by cummings.ae under Uncategorized |
Today we had a non-uniform day to raise money to support an orphanage in Uganda. Mr and Mrs Leftley came to visit our School from the NOTDEC UK charity and told the boys about the orphange. The boys learnt how the charity helps provide a reliable water supply, education, medical care and new buildings for the children. The boys were shown pictures of the children in the orpahange playing with their toys and having lessons in their school.

Fossils found at Lovell House!
| January 20, 2012 | Posted by cummings.ae under Uncategorized |
Year 2 became paleontologists for the morning and were investigating fossils found in the Nottinghamshire Area! Jules Howard came to visit Year 2 to talk about fossils and dinosaurs. The boys had a wonderful time and were completely engaged with his exciting activities and interesting facts.
They started off by learning how a fossil is formed and then went to work in groups to find fossils amongst trays of pebbles using magnifying glasses which was fascinating and the boys found many different forms of fossils. Jules was then able to take the fossils and show the boys what dinosaurs would have looked like during the Jurassic period. The boys then had the opportunity to handle ambers from Madagascar which were 2 million years old and see if they could find the objects within it which told scientists about the habitats at the time. He had a huge range of fossils for the boys to explore from teeth to pieces of backbone to dinosaur eggs and poo!
We finished with a question and answer session and Jules was very impressed with the Year Two’s knowledge and Mrs Williams was able to find out why we can’t call a Pteradactyl a dinosaur. If you want to know too, please ask!
- What a find!
- What is this?
- We love finding out about dinosaurs!
- What can I see here?
- What fossils can I find?
- Fossil collection
- Is this a dinosaur tooth?
- Name that fossil

Year 1 boys walking through the park

Year 1 boys enjoying the park
Today the Year 1 boys enjoyed a visit to The Arboretum Park, where we hoped to spot some British wildlife. Firstly, the boys thought about which animals we would be likely to see on our trip. Some of their suggestions were very optimistic!
On our journey around the park we kept a tally of every animal we saw, recording each of the animals on our list. The boys had a hard time recording the amount of birds that were flying about!
We were lucky enough to see some colourful and exotic birds in the Park bird cages, which we quickly marked down. Although we waited patiently, we weren’t fortunate enough to witness the huge turtle which is rumoured to live in the lake!
It was a lovely, crisp afternoon of learning outside, and we look forward to using our data in the classroom.
